Kannada superstar Upendra’s highly anticipated film UI finally hit theatres on December 20, 2024, after nearly two years of production. The film generated immense excitement as it marked Upendra’s return to direction after nine years, with his last directorial being the 2015 Kannada super-hit Uppi 2. Known for his unconventional screenplays and thought-provoking narratives, Upendra has carved a niche in the hearts of Kannada audiences. But will the VFX-heavy UI manage to replicate the impact of his previous films? Let’s find out!
GOOD POINTS:—
The basic theme of the film is good. In today’s times, how people are addicted to learning more about others problems, ignoring their basic rights, and are not even bothered to fight for what is true has been showcased in a very philosophical manner. The basic theme and backdrop are wacky.
As usual, Upendra is crazy in his role and gives a very good performance. His costumes, ideology, and the way he plays two different characters, Kalki and Satya, in UI are very good. But his direction leaves a lot to be desired. More on this later.
UI is set in a fantasy world and takes you on a ride that has great visuals. The production design is amazing, and the manner in which Upendra narrated the film with key points in the second half was good.
Ravi Shankar, who plays a key role, was neat in his character. Yet another plus point is the song that comes during the climax, which is hilarious and sums up the basic theme of the film in a clear manner.
Upendra has good ideas up his sleeve when it comes to elevating the basic mindset of the people. With this film, he has showcased what is good and bad in the society and has left it upon us to act accordingly.
