  • OYO, a leading travel booking platform, has introduced a new check-in policy for its partner hotels, starting with those in Meerut. The updated guidelines, effective this year, specify that unmarried couples will no longer be allowed to check in.
  • OYO has granted its partner hotels the discretion to refuse couple bookings based on their judgment, in alignment with local social sensibilities.
  • OYO, a prominent travel and hotel booking platform, recently introduced a new check-in rule for its partner hotels, starting in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut, which will be effective this year.

“Oyo has received feedback from civil society groups, especially in Meerut, urging action on the issue. Additionally, residents of several cities have filed petitions to ban check-in of unmarried couples at OYO hotels,” sources said.

Pawas Sharma, Region Head of OYO North India, told PTI, “OYO is committed to promoting safe and responsible hospitality. While we respect individual freedoms and personal liberties, we also recognize our responsibility to collaborate with law enforcement and civil society groups in the areas we serve. We will continue to review the policy and its impact on a regular basis.”

OYO

This initiative is part of OYO’s broader efforts to reshape its image and position itself as a brand that prioritizes safety for families, students, business travelers, religious visitors, and solo guests. The company also aims to encourage longer stays and repeat bookings, thereby building customer trust and loyalty.

As part of its commitment to safe hospitality, OYO has also launched nationwide initiatives, including joint seminars on safe hospitality practices with local police and hotel partners, blacklisting hotels accused of promoting immoral activities, and taking action against unauthorized hotels using OYO’s brand.
